Rumors are flying that Antonio Tarver and Jeff Lacy will fight this fall. This is an interesting matchup considering both Tarver and Lacy were dominated the last time they fought.
Tarver's loss to Hopkins was not only devastating to his boxing career but may hurt the promotion of Rocky VI. He needs to step back into the ring this fall but I am not sure he should be doing it against a younger, hungrier, stronger Jeff Lacy.
Lacy was beat by Joe Calzaghe in a fight where Lacy was outworked but it did prove that Lacy has a strong chin in being able to withstand the beating he took for 12 rounds. Lacy's strength, determination and left hook should cause Tarver headaches. In the end I see Tarver retiring after the fight and Lacy taking a step back to stardom.
This matchup is just a rumor and in the end I don't believe this fight will ever happen. Both fighters need a tuneup fight before they can step back into the ring against a world class fighter.
